I’m not your average person. In fact, I’m probably not like anyone you’ve ever met.
Travel and cats are the two main things that fuel my soul – that’s why my company is called Soulcat Travel. I started my business after much prompting by friends, since I love researching and planning travel almost as much as I like going on trips. I love to help others find deals so they can visit more of our lovely planet.
I’ve been traveling internationally since the early 90s and lived in the UK for almost 2 years in the mid-90s with my late husband, a Scot. As of Spring 2026, I have visited 6 Continents, 38 Countries, 47 US States, DC & Puerto Rico (goal to do all 50 by end of 2026), over 500 cities, 56 UNESCO Sites, 9 US National Parks & tons of Monuments, close to 18% of the World Traveled.
I am by no means a travel snob. I don’t spend a lot of time in my room at most destinations. My friends can tell you I am a very active traveler and like to do as much as I can in a new destination. I’m a 3-4 star kinda gal, but I’m always looking for a bargain. I typically pick my next destination based on the deals I can find – and there are so many more places I want to explore. I’ve recently started maximizing credit card points to make travel even cheaper (happy to offer recommendations so you can too!)
I have traveled in many different ways over the years: solo & with friends/family, cruises, all-inclusives, hotels, apartments, hostels, renting cars, train travel, ferries & escorted bus trips. I have been through 70 airports and 43 ports. I have planned US and European road trips and have driven in many foreign countries. I’ve also booked my own transfers and excursions. I chose escorted bus tours in Egypt, Costa Rica, and Thailand due to time constraints or safety as a solo woman traveler. I have cruised with NCL, Royal Caribbean, Princess, Holland America, Carnival, Margaritaville, and MSC. I often travel to see concerts and shows in other cities.
I am a huge animal lover, so I try to find humane animal encounters on my travels. I have been photographing cats internationally for over 30 year and feature their pics here on my site. I also love to find nature-based excursions, to explore the natural beauty of the destinations I visit. Hiking is not my passion, but I don’t mind some minor hiking to reach breathtaking views. I am a big city walker and usually explore cities on foot whenever time allows. I love architecture, and this method allows for the best pictures of awesome buildings.
I was a travel agent in the late 90s for a couple of years (the more traditional, in-office type), and found I actually traveled less, so I didn’t continue. In the last 25 years, the face of travel bookings has changed immensely, but there are still a lot of people who want a helping hand (that’s where I come in!). In addition to this blog where I share tips, tricks, and hacks, I am a licensed travel agent, so I can help find you deals and curate itineraries for you.
Whether you have reached this page to find reviews, ideas for a future trip, or you need help planning a vacation, I am delighted you are here. Let’s get you traveling!!
